I got the (working) game today, and it's totally kicking my ass! Fast, intense, flashy yet strategic and never over-the-top (although...)

It looks a bit CPS2-ish, but the BG's are better and some characters have great animation. Yeah I love it. Worth every penny.

I'm also having huge problems with getting the secret characters in JoJo for Dreamcast. I mean, I can beat challenge mode with characters like Jotaru, Dio or Kakyoin but trying it with Joseph, Black Polnareff, Hol Horse or Alessi is like trying to beat Omega Rugal with a rubber chicken. Any tips for a SCRUB! like me? ;)

I played JBA again today, and didn't enjoy it as much as I did last time. It seems so floaty and insubstantial, and the AI is truly, deeply pathetic.

Though when it came to the 'desert' stage, I really liked all the details in the background - like Abdul lying there with his bracelets on the ground in front of him. Good stuff.

I've also started reading the manga from what I assume to be the beginning. It's pretty cool, though the art style is a bit weird at times, and is often hard to see what's actually happening in a frame. :S

And I remember quite liking playing as Hol Horse, just mixing up all his different gunshot moves, setting up high/low traps and so on, and abusing the fuck out of the guidable "stand" button tracer shot.

That 'zombie' super move of his is superbly freaky.

As for the tips; thanks, but it's not really helpful. Hol's stand has a really slow startup. The problem is that he doesn't stand a chance when fighting close range, and from long range he can be outshot by the likes of kakyoin and Alessi. Boo!

I like JoJo with unhealthy love. I just love how the comic comes to life. It may not be much of a capcom fighter, but it's still highly entertaining.

I must say (of course) Jotaru/Star Platinum; Almost the same as The World, but with more acurate movement while retaining the brute strength (although slightly less as the World).

Second place goes to The World (for reasons mentioned above)

Third place hm... I'd say Hierophant Green, because it's so flexible. It has an awnser for almost any thread.

look at the names of the images; it starts with image 1, which strangely enough is at the bottom of the list (in chapter 10). continue to image 2, then 3 etc.

I must say, the parts with J. Geil and the Hanged Man were utterly brilliant.

And as for 'stand rankings' ... I dunno, it's not like Dragonball where a battle power of 130,000 loses to one of 185,000 (for free!) - every fight I've seen in JOJO is won not by the most powerful, but rather by whoever needs to win in order to advance the story.

So sometimes speed will beat power, but other times it's the other way round. Sometimes cunning, or mind games beats the others out - there's no 'default' victor like there is in DBZ, or whatever.

I do like the format of the JBA battles though.

2: *easily counters* See? I said you wouldn't.

I think every Manga contains six chapters so we're at issue#6 or something. The guy who uploads the scans does this every three or four days, although he can only do this at his dayjob, which can get him fired :|

But indeed Stand rankings are a bit wack, although it's pretty obvious who has a stand which can be used in more then one way, as opposed to stands like Tower of Gray or Strength. The fact that every opponent presents a real puzzle for the heroes is, for me at least, a great thing. The only real X vs Y "test of strength" fights we've seen are JoJo vs Kakyoin and Abdul (Avdol?) vs Polnareff. Not that those fights were bad or anything :D

Nope, I wouldn't know where to look. But I heard that the 3rd series (IE this one) is the best, and that the previous jojo's didn't have Stands, thus eliminating one major aspect of my love for JoJo. I've also heard that the art in the previous series wasn't as good as in series 3.

Frietstof- Yes, you are right. The first series, in particular has terrible art. I tried reading Jojo in Japanese, and I got about 5 or 6 books in, but they are actually very difficult to read (and boring, when they try to explain IN DETAIL how the Black Knight uses his hair to attack you and BTW here is his entire history and the entire history of Europe, and also- oh, he's dead).

That's why I wanted to find a translation online. The first series is interesting, only in that it takes place in the 19th century. The second series centers on Joseph as a young man, which is interesting.

That seems about right. I'll see what I can do about scanning some of the pages (I don't have a scanner, but I'll ask a friend or use one at school). If you want to see how bad the art is in the meantime, try to find a pic of the cover of Book #1. It is horrible.

Just look at the graphic styles of the three uh Jos. The first one seems to be horribly deformed, as though Araki Hirohiko forgot how people looked. The second one is much better, and proves that he has learned anatomy and is going crazy experimenting with crazy poses and stuff. By the third series, he has used wisdom to limit his craziness in drawing the human form. blah blah blah

Jonathan appears through the skylight, come to save her, but the zombie removes the sack from his head to reveal that he has several poisonous snakes living in his face. As the zombie falls, the snakes tearing him apart, Poco is reunited with his sister. Jonathan proceeds into the next room, where Dio stands at the window, waiting... "

PS This is the best part of the first series. The monster, from what I remember, is actually supposed to be "The Elephant Man, " and instead of being a kind and misunderstood John Merrick, he is a horrible evil rapist that has supernatural powers.
(pls see Hirohiko's depiction of Jack the Ripper also. NO WAIT- The best part is when Jack the Ripper attacks the heroes by BURSTING OUT OF A LIVING HORSE'S BODY LEAVING IT A BLOODY MESS!!)

If you want the secret characters, finish "challenge" mode with Jotaru, Joseph, Kakyoin, Dio, Hol Horse and Black Polnareff. For something called "kids mode", finish challenge mode with Alesi.

For beating Ice: Use dodge/evade a lot. With stand off that is.

OH GOD, EPISODE FIVE IS BEAUTIFUL.

Forget #4 (which seems to have been filler so they could put more effort and action into this one) ... it's just brilliant. I don't think I blinked once in the whole 25 minutes.

It's got great animation, one moment that made me laugh out loud (the blood on the car windscreens) and just superbly tense, well executed action. And if you like Dio, you'll love this one. :trannie

I love the way the whole 'secret of Dio's stand' thing is played out. I mean, I knew what it was anyway - but the way it's slowly built up to, hinted at and them finally revealed here is absolutely king of the galaxy.

The only thing that bugged me was how Dio was killed. All throughout the OVAs and manga we've seen the stand-users being smart guys and tactically out-thinking their enemies in varying ways, but Jotaru beat Dio through a deus ex machina that came out of nowhere and was pretty much on a par with some of the Dragonball Z transformations.

In order to celebrate, I resurrected my PSX to play Super Story Mode in Jojo. Compared to what we've been reading in the Manga translations, it is indeed a great conversion with a few minor details missed. Then again, those details would make the game a bit dragging.

The way I interpret it, Jotaro figured out how to stop time so quickly because he knew that it is possible. Its like giving a vibrator to a little kid. Eventually, he will learn to derive pleasure by sticking it up his ass, but he would've figured it out much faster if someone had told him. Okay, that was a bad example. Remember, the whole point of episode 4 was to try to figure out the secret power of The World. Now what was the point of Kakyoin's death if no one had put that knowlege to good use?

Kakyoin died to tell Joseph and Jotarou (whose name I'm just going to spell randomly from now on) the secret of Dio's stand, nothing more.

It would have worked perfectly for me if Jotarouo had beaten Dio USING that knowledge (Kakyoin doesn't die in vain) - but without the "pulls out of his ass" super power cop-out ending.

I assume that Dio's death heralds the end of the 'Jotaru' episodes of the series? I couldn't see much drama and tension in confrontations now that Star Platinum can stop time...

Well, up until about10 minutes ago, I didn't know either, but basically, it's that generic explanation of super human ability in a "real life" type situation.

Basically a force or a power a person extrudes that only similar people can see. I was hoping there'd be a tremendously depthful explanation for it, but it's pretty much just "This is cool, deal with it" sorta expl.

New Jojo ova clearly follows the manga line faithfully.
So far saw ep1,today ep2 should be premiering.
The art style is really top notch,plus its setting for ep1 is dark and gritty.

Stands are energies/forces, untapped inside the Stand user.
Every stand has its own unique appearance and power. Because of the recent resurrection of Dio, people (like Jotaro) are now able to use these stands. Treat it as if it was an aura of some sort with Dio as the catalyst.

And about the transition of the Manga, OVA and the videogame, there seems to be some little details that aren't matching, namely what happened to Avdol (that's the Capcom USA way to say it ;) I don't want to spoil some things right now, so I'll tell you guys about it...when the mangas are all readable.

Joseph has the Stand to take pictures and images far away by smashing some electronics. It's the weakest Stand of the 6 heroes, but he has the old Hamon Energy to make up for that. ;)

So, I did in fact recieve my Jojo DVDs today, and after watching the first 3 episodes so far, I can give an accurate review of its immediate quality. Since I'm fairly certain that if you are reading this you are already familiar with the fansubs Neil linked to (and hosted :D) I'm going to go straight to it's audio/video qualities, and its subtitle accuracy.

The DVDs in question can be seen here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1528329903&r=0&t=0&sho wTutorial=0&ed=1017981916&indexURL=0&rd=1). If you are a lucky individual you might find these up for auction, but at the time of this writing, they only have the prequels up for sale (which I am also interested in. Oh I'm sorry, IM INTERESTED IN THIS). The cover art is different, but is still spiffy, featuring all the characters (including ZA WORLDO!!!), and has a really nice image (of said cover) on the disc itself. Anyway...

The dvd starts off with the logo for "Anime Studios" (the fansubbers, quite possibly :wink ) then pops right into the main menu, consisting of Jotaro, Staaa Pratinumm and Iggy Standing next to "PLAY ALL", "SUBTITLE", "SCENE SELECTION", and "WYLER". Haha, I'm funny like the british! No seriously, there's no subtitle option. *gets shot*

The scene selection is basically the episodes themself, and when you press the next chapter (on my XBOXXX remote of course) it takes you to the next episode, instead of the next scene within the episode. OK? So by the time you get to the 3rd episode, you have to make liberal use of your fast forward button (32xxx speed 4 me) to skip everyone's favorite prologue.

The picture quality is pretty good, I'd say it ranks as A+ VHS quality, B+ DVD, meaning the picture is sharp and clear, but the edges can get jaggy (and I'm not playing it on the PS2! Zing!). The main thing I noticed is that when it fades to black, those weird square boxes appear to make up the image, like a Divx movie or Digital Cable. The "Anime Studio" logo appears for a short time at the beggining of each epsiode, but its small and out of the way.

The audio is great as far as I'm concerned, I'm playing it through to large speakers (no 5.1 DTS BOL for me), and sounded as it should have, i guess. I sometimes noticed a faint hissing noise like it was on VHS or something, but only when it was deathly quiet.

Anyway, onto what whoever is reading this really cares about, the subtitles. Going from the translations from the earlier fansubs, these are pretty accurate, with cussing where needed (but not DBZ "I"M GONNA FUCKING KILL YOUR FUCKING FACE FREEEEZA" fansubs). Sure, there are sometimes missing words, like when Polnareff shouts, "HOW CAN BE HELPER" about Iggy, but they're all understandable, with little or no misspellings (more than I can say for myself). The main thing I noticed tho, was that sometimes the subtitles were badly timed, where it'd either be ahead of the spoken dialogue by a whole person, or would lag behind. This isn't that annoying, but comes accross quite obviously when you can tell that Joseph isn't saying "YOUR TURN, MISTAH JOESTAR", and Darby isn't calling himself "Barbie".

So In my final opinion, this DVD was definetly worth the $15 I payed for it, minor annoyances aside. If you take it as being a DVD quality fansubs (which IT IS) and not a remastered masterpiece of masterness, It's fantastic. Oh right, the Neil style verdict:

Oh, and last night I had a "Jojo" dream ... I dreamt Polnareff got killed in a park, but before he died he passed his 'Silver Chariot' stand onto a young guy calle Cince ... and the stand turned gold.

I don't know what's weirder, the fact that Neil dreamed about Polnareff or the fact that the dream did not involve homoeroticism of any kind.

PS. does anybody know where I can get the PAL version of this game. I've found a US version which retails for about $10, but since I;m lazy and don't want to use the boot disc I would prefer a PAL version. The UK joint I used to go to on the net 'simplygames.com' no longer delivers overseas :(

Coolmandool: I know a couple of shops here where I can get the PAL Jojo for DC, but they don't ship overseas...I could order it and send it your way...but I'm not sure how to get it to you and how the whole money thing works. Anyway, it's about €20 here, so it's pretty cheap...
