They released some shots of Raphael , a blonde guy with a Rapier , as well as Maxi, who miraculously survived dieing in his Soul Calibur ending.

I'm curious about Maxi's story...I mean...he was dead. Killik and the girl threw his favourite Nunchucks (whatever) in the sea. Hmmm...

The guy with the Rapier looks cool. We need more Euro fighters in ancient japanese fighting games :supergrin

If Namco's previous storyline's are any indication, the truth of what happened will probabaly be a mismash of things that happened in various endings.

More than likely he was wounded, and left for dead, but somehow survived, or someone saved him, or something.

I will always prefer Li Long to him though, Li Long was a cool character with his own story and purpose, Maxi is just some rich upstart who decided to start hanging out with Xiang Hua and Kilik.

Doesn't the rapier guy kinda look like Kayin from Toshinden?

I stopped following Toshinden after part one, but yeah there are some resemblances.

And I thought Maxi's story was pretty ok...he had more reasons to fight then let's say...Mitsurugi or Voldo...or actually anyone from the old cast of SE except Nightmare/Siegfried...

His brother was killed by Astaroth and now he's out for revenge!

What was Li Long's reason to fight anyway? Didn't he only fight because he believed Mitsurugi killed his wife?
If so , then I don't see why this is a better reason than Maxi's quest for revenge on Astaroth, who killed his sworn brother and crew while trying to capture/kill Kilik (Maxi was a pirate captain/smuggler hired by Kilik to take him to Europe).

Li Long was after the sword, supposedly it could do anything, even save him from dying . . . obviously not.

I dunno, I just don't like Maxi as much as I like Li Long. It is good to know that a bonafide "chucker" will be back tho. I was afraid that Targus chick was going to replace the nunchaku characters.

Can anyone tell me exactly what happened?
I know that at the end of Soul Edge/Blade, Soul Edge was broken, and Taki replaced her old sword with part of it.

Now, I thought Siegfried took what was left of Soul Edge, and became Nightmare, but if that's true how is Siegfried also in SC and now SC2? Plus, didn't they say the Soul Edge has taken control of someone else and made a new Nightmare? And how the hell is Cervantes STILL alive? Didn't he have to die for Ivy to find out he's her dad?

Also, Kilik's mirror, and Hua's sword became Soul Calibur, and it vanquished inferno, but wasn't Kilik supposed to go insane or Riot of the Blood if the mirror was taken off of him? A little story help if anyone knows. kthxbye.

I'm with Fenix on this one; I would have liked to have had Li Long back rather than Maxi.

Maxi's story and reason for not dying are as follows, if anyone cares. I know I don't; as far as I'm concerned the plot is just an excuse for a bunch of men and women to beat the crap out of each other with a selection of sharp and blunt objects.

Maxi was fighting Astaroth, but the ground gave way underneath him, and he got trapped in an under ground cave. (Asta's god's power waned, and Asta was sucked back to the God's dimension, but Maxi only got on the fringe of the hoover action and was merely sucked unto an underground cave) When Kilik and Xianghua caught up with where they'd seen Maxi last, all they found was his nuncheaku, and assumed he had been killed, but they had no other evidence to go on.

Maxi didn't do much to dispel rumors of his demise because his injuries had taken their toll, and he was unable to move. A local villager found him, and took him back to his town and cared for Maxi until he recovered several months later. Maxi decided to settle down in the town because it was such a peaceful and carefree life there. (Compared to pirating off Japanese shores, and getting sucked into under ground caves I guess)

Then four years later, the villagers began to hear disturbing rumors of a evil man who was leaving nothing but death in his wake, even going so far as to level entire towns. Maxi overheard that it was a large man wielding an axe, and he suspected Astaroth, (who he thought he had killed) Maxi started nosing around the countryside, and found more evidence and eyewitnesses who confirmed Maxi's suspicions. It was Astaroth. So Maxi leaves the peaceful town to resume his quest for vengence against the purple demon. He also found out that he'd been cured with a fragment of Soul Edge while he was preparing to leave in search of Asta...

This whole "New Nightmare" crap is all just a misunderstanding.
Nightmare is still Siegfried if you look at his 2P costume you'll see it clear as day.

Afraid not. Maxi's story was the only one posted there. The post seemed to imply that there might be more on Game Watch, but I can't read Japanese, so I have no way of confirming that. Sorry.

Where did you hear this?

I thought only the default characters had been confirmed. Depending on who you believe, that means there are going to be between six and ten additional time release characters, and the odds of new characters coming in are slim. I personally hope Namco follows the Tekken team's lead and tries to cut down on move sharing between characters, even if it does mean the loss of certain characters from the earlier games, but I have a bad feeling that the remaining characters might be "palette shifts" with a few different moves, like Rock or Seung Mina.
